PTAP is an advocacy project to scale up HIV prevention services in
Tamil Nadu, India.
Duration: July 2005 ongoing
Focus: To support a broad-sweeping policy and programming
shift to increase access to comprehensive prevention services
alongside expanded treatment services in Tamil Nadu.
Main activities: The project carries out a set of activities which could generate
assessment and analysis of HIV programs in Tamil Nadu regarding
responses of various sectors, networking of NGOs/CBOs, and advocacy
action for the goal of informing and/or changing policies, programs
and services. The activities include:
- Holding and review of baselines and annual operational
planning.
- Skills building for advocacy on the expansion and alignment of
prevention and treatment.
- Development and assessment of strategies for community education
and HIV messaging to promote prevention and the expansion
and alignment of prevention and treatment activities.
- Advocating for Positive prevention and Mobilization of PLHIV for prevention
initiatives, with a view to making the GIPA principle (Greater
Involvement of People Living with and affected by HIV and AIDS) a
reality.
- Strengthening NGOs and CBOs' participation in building linkages
between clinical and community service interventions,
inclusive of promotion of VCT.
- Addressing barriers to accessing HIV related services including
that of stigma and discrimination.
- Promoting community participation in the development of new HIV
prevention technologies.
- Development and implementation of Tamil Nadu-specific advocacy
agenda.

diversity; reach and innovation for poor and the marginalized
communities in South-India

Duration: January 2006 December 2009
Focus:
- To reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of the poor
and the marginalized communities either affected or vulnerable to
HIV
- To empower the civil society organizations to check the spread
of HIV and reduce the impact of AIDS
Main activities:
- Forming community based voluntary counseling, testing, caring
and supporting centers
- Facilitating the communities to access these centers
- Advocating the public and private as well as community
agencies for actions against stigma and discrimination of the poor
and the marginalized communities, either affected or vulnerable to
HIV
- Capacity building of HCP for the continuum of care to these
targeted population
- Formation and organization of coalitions to build capacities
and manage similar future projects in Tamil Nadu.
